This article almost makes me glad I am no longer a fish-eating semi-vegetarian. Murdering land animals > depopulating the oceans?

I got this link for Sourcemap.org in an email newsletter this morning, and after following the link and looking around at it, realized this was the amazing work and brainchild of someone who I went through 2 years of New Trier with—Leonardo Bonnani. Even if I didn’t remember him from gym class, I’d still be really impressed. I haven’t had the time to really fully explore...

Looks like Pitchfork loves the new Destroyer album too. Which makes me happy but also kind of bummed that one of my last unplumbed favorite musical fishing holes, which the review describes as “a narrow window of time— sometime between, say, 1977 and 1984, or between Chuck Mangione’s“Feels So Good” and Sade’s Diamond Life with stops along the way for Roxy...

If you have nothing to do but watch movies all day, you’re welcome. If you already have a backlog of DVDs and an overloaded instant queue, I’m sorry. I feel your pain.

My pal Bryn helped make this film about some incredible work he’s a part of in Haiti. Truly inspiring, even to a bitter jaded old bag like me. Watch and enjoy and learn and support http://www.apjnow.org/

The GOP leadership largely succeeded this past fall in appropriating the political energy of the Tea Party for its own ends, pulling off a brilliant coup by using Tea Party rage to push through the long sought-after extension of the obscene Bush tax cuts. This was always going to be the model of how Republican Party hacks would deal with the Tea Party: Bash the living hell out of hated blue-state...

I generally like Adrien Chen’s writing (on many occasions I even love it and have recommended him for a variety of jobs in which he’d probably have no interest) but I have to disagree here. I don’t think there was anything categorically confusing about the memorial service. I think Obama gave an…

Were you too busy to hear all of the best 50 albums of 2010? Now you can hear them all streaming in their entirety—wow, pretty cool! Of course, whether you agree these are the best 50 is another story, but I am not here to argue you with you about it.

Man, I love Bill Murray: “God, this is a hot, hot Red Hot. But I’m not going to quit on you people, because I’ve got another half in my pocket. [Pulls out of pocket and puts in mouth.] I got one-and-a-half in my mouth right now. [Mumbling.]”

Reading the comments on this Gawker thread about Jared Loughner’s family, a few thoughts:
It is far harder than you probably think to get an adult with paranoid schizophrenia help—professional treatment or otherwise. And I know this from painful direct experience. Paranoid schizophrenia runs…

There’s this, too. Do I really work hard to serve the community of Yoker, among others? You be the judge of that. But do check out my colleague Tom Watson going after Michael Gove—classic!

Finally got around to reading this, and then subscribing to the podcast. Listened to episode 130, featuring Mike DeStefano, and was blown away. This is how podcasting should be done. You’re missing out if you’re not subscribing to this—looks like I have a lot of listening to do.

shortest-lived tumblr theme ever?
I’m changing it again. I don’t dig this one at all. And since my “personal branding” <throw up in mouth> sucks anyways, I don’t believe anyone will mind—if they notice it at all. But I am writing this warning for the one person who will mind. You know who you are. You’re the guy who designed the current theme.
